Hosted by Austin, you are invited!

About this event Every second Monday of each month we are launching community gatherings dedicated to art, visual culture, and well-being ❤️ This is the link to our third event. We’ll meet from 6–10 PM at our beautiful studio Sharp Objects Tattoo, South Congress, Austin. Each event lasts ~4 hours and includes: • yoga • conversations & connection • networking • guided drawing and art practice Sometimes it will be drawing, sometimes painting, practicing in composition, design, or sculpting. The art practice itself is ~2 hours. This is not a classic workshop, but a curated, guided experience. All materials are provided. I’ve been teaching visual art for almost 20 years, received the Hope of Russia award in painting at the age of 14, and have dedicated my life to this activity and this science. I’m an internationally known tattoo artist — and now I finally have a space to build this kind of community in Austin. Tattoo artists, beginners, professionals, artists, and art lovers — you’re all welcome. Participation is paid. Friday Nights Unplugged: Somatic Yoga & Sound Bath Class (Lumen Room) hosted by BATHE — workshops in Austin

Hosted by Friday Nights Unplugged: Somatic Yoga & Sound Bath Class (Lumen Room)

This is a slow flow yoga for stress release followed by a soothing sound bath. This class is designed to help people close out their work week (unplug), and transition into the weekend with mindfulness and self care. Somatic Yoga is a slow, body-led practice that invites you to move from the inside out. Rather than pushing into postures, you'll be guided to tune into sensation, release held tension, and reconnect with your body's natural wisdom. This 45 minute class draws on somatic principles — gentle, intentional movement that speaks directly to the nervous system — making it a deeply supportive practice for anyone navigating stress, burnout, or simply the pace of daily life. No prior yoga experience is needed, and no flexibility is required. Whether you're new to movement or returning after time away, this class meets you exactly where you are. You'll leave feeling more at home in your body — settled, spacious, and more present than when you walked in. A Sound Bath is a deeply restful, fully immersive experience where you do nothing but lie down and receive. You'll be bathed in resonant tones and vibrations produced by instruments like crystal singing bowls, gongs, and chimes — sounds that guide the nervous system into a state of calm, often reaching depths of relaxation that are difficult to access on your own. There's nothing to do, no experience needed, and no way to do it wrong. This class is open to absolutely everyone — those new to wellness practices, those managing anxiety or chronic stress, and anyone who simply needs permission to stop and be still. Many guests describe the experience as the most rested they've felt in months. **Every ticket includes full access to our soaking garden**, available to you after class for as long as you need. We encourage you to linger, integrate, and let the water do its work. **TIME:** Friday, May 15th @ 6:30PM (Please arrive 15 minutes before the class begins.) **FACILITATOR:** Soul Adventures ATX **WHAT TO BRING:** We provide mats, please bring your own swimsuit and towel for soaking afterwards.

In-Sauna Educational Programming with MacKenzie Boling, Esq. hosted by BATHE — workshops in Austin

Hosted by In-Sauna Educational Programming with MacKenzie Boling, Esq.

**Longevity Law: In-Sauna Educational Programming with MacKenzie Boling, Esq.** *Pyra Social Sauna at Bathe Austin* There's something that happens in the sauna that doesn't happen anywhere else. Walls come down. Attention sharpens. The body is present in a way it rarely gets to be. MacKenzie Boling knows this better than most. She's an Attorney, Sauna Master, former Massage Therapist, and Founder of Longevity Law LLC — where she works with thermal bathing operators across the country on the internal systems, public representations, and operational decisions that determine whether a contrast therapy space is truly safe, legally sound, and built to last. On this evening, she brings that work into the sauna itself. **The Format:** Three rounds. Two lectures. One conversation. Cold plunge between every set. MacKenzie delivers two 10-minute in-sauna lectures drawn from her framework for building defensible standards in sauna, thermal bathing, and contrast therapy spaces — covering everything from guest screening and staff role clarity to consumer trust, insurance legibility, and the operational integrity that allows guests to fully relax into the experience. The third round opens into Q\&A and discussion. Ask what you've always wanted to know about what actually makes a thermal bathing space safe, credible, and built for the long game. Between rounds — plunge, reset, and come back sharper. **Who this is for:** Contrast therapy operators and entrepreneurs. Wellness space founders. Anyone building or thinking about building in this space. And every curious guest who's ever wanted to understand what's really holding the container they're trusting with their body. This lecture sits at the intersection of law, wellness, and lived experience — and it's happening inside one of Austin's most intentional thermal bathing spaces, which is exactly where it belongs. 📍 Pyra Social Sauna — Bathe Austin, 2922 E Cesar Chavez The heat is the classroom. The Talk, Train Your Health hosted by Avocado Collective — workshops in Austin

Hosted by The Talk, Train Your Health

Free Talk: Training Health Into Your Life Health isn’t something you “start on Monday.” It’s something you build, quietly, daily, into the way you live. This free talk explores how to integrate real, sustainable health into your routine without extremes, impossible plans, or unrealistic expectations. We’ll break down how energy, movement, nutrition, and mindset can adapt to your lifestyle, not the other way around. We’ll also touch on something most people prefer to ignore: what happens when health is postponed for too long, and how small, repeated neglect quietly compounds over the years. Not to alarm, but to bring awareness to what’s at stake… and what’s still fully in your control. We’ll explore the subtle signals your body is already giving you; the low energy, the tension, the digestion issues, the restless sleep, those everyday discomforts we tend to normalize. Seen differently, they’re not random inconveniences, but early indicators of a direction… one that, if left unchecked, shapes an unhealthy future.Expect a practical, grounded conversation on:Why most health advice fails in real life How to work with your body instead of against it Simple shifts that create lasting energy and clarity The long-term cost of “later” when it comes to your health Designing a lifestyle that supports you long-termNo pressure. No dogma. Just a smarter way to approach feeling good.Be the person in your circle who takes care of themselves, not perfectly, but consistently. Be an example and share the Health. Come curious. Leave with clarity

Where to Find Workshops in Austin

Austin's diverse neighborhoods each contribute a distinct flavor to its workshop tapestry. **East Austin**, a vibrant hub for artists and innovators, boasts numerous studios like Springdale General and Canopy, where you can find pottery, welding, screen printing, or even culinary workshops focusing on Tex-Mex or BBQ along East Cesar Chavez Street. This area pulsates with creative energy, making it ideal for those seeking hands-on, community-driven experiences. Head south to **South Congress (SoCo)**, and you'll discover workshops steeped in craft and boutique culture. Along South Congress Avenue, many independent shops offer classes in jewelry making, leathercraft, or even floral design, often reflecting the area's bohemian charm. It's a fantastic spot for visitors to combine shopping with an engaging learning session. **North Loop and Hyde Park** provide a more intimate, neighborhood-focused workshop environment. Here, smaller independent studios and community centers frequently host classes on topics ranging from textile arts to creative writing or even sustainable gardening. These areas offer a quieter, more personal learning experience away from the city's main thoroughfares. Lastly, **The Domain** and **Arboretum** areas cater to a more professional or specialized crowd. You'll often find workshops here focused on technology, business development, advanced culinary techniques, or high-end art. These modern districts provide state-of-the-art facilities and opportunities for upskilling in a polished setting.

What to Expect at Your First Workshop

Workshops in Austin typically offer an engaging, hands-on experience designed to immerse participants in a new skill or craft. Most sessions range from two to four hours, though some intensive courses might span a full day or several consecutive evenings. The pace is generally beginner-friendly, with instructors providing clear demonstrations and personalized guidance, ensuring everyone can follow along regardless of prior experience. You'll find a collaborative and encouraging atmosphere, where questions are welcomed and creativity is celebrated. Many craft workshops provide all necessary materials, from paints and canvases to leather and tools, often included in the registration fee. For culinary classes, ingredients and equipment are always supplied. It is advisable to wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little messy, especially for art or pottery sessions. The social aspect is a huge draw; attendees often chat, share tips, and build connections with fellow learners, sometimes even enjoying local refreshments or BYOB options. Expect to leave not just with a new skill or creation, but also with a sense of accomplishment and perhaps new friends.

Why Join Workshops in Austin?

 • Tap into Austin's unique creative energy and "maker" culture, finding inspiration from local artists and innovators.
 • Support small businesses and independent instructors, contributing directly to the vibrant local economy of neighborhoods like East Austin and South Congress.
 • Learn a distinctive skill, from bespoke leather crafting at a studio off South Lamar to mastering authentic Texas BBQ techniques.
 • Connect with fellow Austinites and visitors in a relaxed, collaborative setting, fostering new friendships and community ties.
 • Discover hidden gems and unique studios tucked away in various neighborhoods, offering a fresh perspective on the city beyond the usual tourist spots.
 • Embrace the "Keep Austin Weird" spirit by exploring unconventional or niche workshops that reflect the city's eclectic personality.

Getting Started

Finding and signing up for a workshop in Austin is straightforward. Platforms like Sweatpals are excellent resources for discovering upcoming events, but you can also check community centers such as Dougherty Arts Center, local libraries like the Austin Public Library branches, individual studio websites, or event listings on sites like Eventbrite. Many workshops require pre-registration online, as class sizes are often limited to ensure personalized attention. Your first session will likely begin with a warm welcome and an introduction to the instructor and fellow participants. The instructor will typically outline the day's project or learning objectives, followed by demonstrations of techniques. Don't be shy about asking questions; instructors are usually passionate about their craft and eager to help. While costs vary widely – from free sessions at Austin Public Library branches to several hundred dollars for specialized, multi-day courses – many entry-level workshops are quite affordable, often in the $40-$100 range. Always confirm what's included in the price, such as materials or refreshments, to avoid surprises.

How to Choose the Right Workshop

Selecting the perfect workshop involves considering a few key factors to ensure a fulfilling experience. First, think about your interest: do you want to learn a new skill entirely, or refine an existing one? Consider the pace and difficulty level; many workshops cater to beginners, but others require some foundational knowledge. Check the instructor's background and teaching style, often discoverable through their website or social media, to see if it aligns with your learning preferences. Location is also crucial. Do you prefer a bustling East Austin studio or a quieter spot in Hyde Park? Evaluate the group size; smaller classes often offer more personalized attention. Don't forget to review the cost, checking what materials are included and if there are any hidden fees. Finally, read reviews from past participants if available, and don't hesitate to contact the host or studio with any questions about the curriculum or what to expect. This proactive approach will help you find a workshop that perfectly matches your aspirations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the typical cost for workshops in Austin?

Workshop prices vary significantly across Austin. You can find free introductory sessions at places like the Austin Public Library branches, while single-session craft workshops often range from $40 to $100. More specialized or multi-day courses, particularly in culinary arts or advanced tech, can cost several hundred dollars.

Are Austin workshops suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Many workshops in Austin are specifically designed for beginners with no prior experience. Instructors often provide step-by-step guidance, ensuring everyone can participate and leave with a sense of accomplishment. Look for descriptions that explicitly state "beginner-friendly" or "no experience necessary."

When are the best times to attend a workshop in Austin?

Most workshops are scheduled during evenings on weekdays (typically 6 PM - 9 PM) and throughout the day on weekends, offering flexibility for various schedules. Special holiday-themed workshops often pop up in November and December, while summer months might see more daytime options for students.

What are parking and transit options like for workshop venues?

Parking varies greatly by location. In areas like South Congress or East Austin, street parking (often metered) can be found, though it may require a short walk. Many venues in The Domain or Arboretum offer dedicated garage parking. Austin's CapMetro bus system provides routes to many popular workshop districts, offering an alternative to driving.

What should I wear to a workshop in Austin?

It's best to wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty, especially for hands-on activities like pottery, painting, or gardening. Layers are also a good idea, as indoor temperatures can vary. For culinary classes, closed-toe shoes are often recommended for safety.

Are there any outdoor workshop options in Austin?

While most workshops are held indoors, you might find seasonal outdoor options, particularly during the pleasant spring and fall months. These could include plein air painting sessions in Zilker Park, gardening workshops at local farms like Boggy Creek Farm, or craft fairs with live demonstrations.

How does Austin's climate affect workshop availability or type?

Austin's hot summers (June-August) mean most workshops are comfortably held indoors with air conditioning, shifting focus from any potential outdoor activities. During the milder spring and fall, you'll see more opportunities for workshops that incorporate outdoor elements or take advantage of pleasant weather, such as photography walks or botanical drawing in natural settings.
